In September 2006, the Institute released Living on the Edge: Gay Men, Depression and Risk-taking, a white paper that explores the known relationships among gay men, mental health and high-risk behaviors. The paper explores the complex relationships among gay men, depression and risk-taking behaviors, and examines the implications of these interactions for health promotion programs.

There is a dearth of research into the mentalhealth of gay men, lesbians and bisexualmen and women in the UK. The aims of this paper are to assess rates and possible predictors of mental illness in these groups. A comprehensive assessment was made of the psychological and social well-being of a sample of gay men, lesbians and bisexual men and women, identified using‘snowball’sampling.
