Building Community Through Difference Rather than Sameness: Barebacking Practices and Discourses of ‘Shared Serostatus'

In this paper I draw on both Foucault's work on ‘gay relationality' and Louise Hogarth's recent documentary ‘The Gift' in order to explore one of the ways in which heteronormative discourses of community may be seen to inform attempts at building inclusive gay communities, particularly in relation to HIV.
