In 2000 sexuality orientation was recognised for the first time as a social determinant of health in the U.S. 10-year public health plan ‘Healthy People 2010'. This report is the first-ever comprehensive document on the state of LGBT health in the US.
Produced by the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA)it lists specific recommendations in the following areas: quality health services, mental health, public health infrastructure, HIV, immunization and infectious diseases, tobacco, injury and violence prevention, and substance abuse.
GLMA is the recognized authority and leader in LGBT health in the U.S. It is committed to “eliminating disparities in health care for LGBT people by increasing their access to culturally competent care.”
