Generic training

GLHV offers a half-day generic training session called Living LGBTI which explores lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans* and intersex (LGBTI) people’s everyday lives and the ways in which systemic discrimination, including homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, affect their health and wellbeing.

The generic training costs $1,200 + GST (Total = $1,320), minimum staff at one session 15, maximum of 25

LGBTI Diversity in Aged Care

Professional development training

GLHV offers an aged care focused training session called Living LGBTI Ageing and Aged Care which explores lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) elder’s everyday lives and the ways in which systemic discrimination, including homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, affect their health and wellbeing. The sessions includes the basic components of our generic training but with case studies and videos specific to the issues facing older LGBTI people and access to ageing and aged care support services.

The training costs $1,200 + GST (Total = $1,320), minimum staff at one session 15, maximum of 25

We also offer one day training, called LGBTI Diversity in Aged Care, which aims to support the development of culturally appropriate services for older LGBTI people, in a more in-depth way. The training promotes greater awareness of the range of issues facing older LGBTI people, provides information about relevant policy and legal issues, and includes a focus on good practice and inclusive care for LGBTI clients/residents. The training is 6 hours. However, in metropolitan areas, it can be conducted as two 3 hour modules.

The training includes a mix of interactive activities, research presentations and small group work. GLHV trainers aim to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for open discussion, and build on the aged care sector’s long history of person-centred care.

Organisational change - the HOW2 Program

GLHV also offers a HOW2 Program which promotes the development of LGBTI-inclusive health and human services. The Program consists of four workshops run over six months and assists participants implement LGBTI- inclusive practices, protocols and procedures within their organisation.

The HOW2 Program costs $1,100 (inc GST) per individual and includes 4 sessions and telephone support over a six month period. Organisations are required to send a minimum of 2 staff to the HOW2 course ($2,200 inc GST).
